Green Tape Solutions is an environmental consultancy based in Brisbane and servicing all of Queensland and northern New South Wales. The principal services offered include environmental assessment and ecology. Our objective is to provide solutions that help our clients plan, manage and enhance the urban and natural environment to create communities that are more liveable, sustainable and responsible.

 

Due to continued growth, our consultancy has an exciting opportunity for a talented Senior Environmental Scientist / Senior Ecologist to join our team.  You will work alongside other environmental scientists/ecologists, mentor our most junior scientists and report to the Director who has extensive experience in environmental approvals.  This is a rewarding and diverse role which will provide you with exposure to all aspects of the environmental assessment process from project due diligence and acquisition, through assessment and approvals, to construction environmental management.  You will manage small to large and complex projects throughout our area.  This is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge and leadership capabilities working with a well-respected consulting firm.  

The position is full time, with work commencing as soon as possible.

Location: Working from home but the applicant must be located along the eastern coast of Queensland - Preferably South-east Queensland or Central Queensland.

Job Description

We are looking for a senior environmental planner or ecologist who is passionate about the environment to join our team of experts. The successful candidate will

  • Take a lead role in field investigations including data collection, team coordination and client liaison.
  • Participate as a field assistant for principal staff or other senior staff as required.
  • Provide input to the collection of ecological information. This may include the preparation of monitoring or management programs, ecological reports and databases.
  • Prepare for field activities. This includes collection and compilation of required mapping, permits, consumables, and accommodation arrangements and preparations of required equipment.
  • Assist principal staff in the development of technical approaches to baseline and impact assessment and reviewing the technical reporting outcomes prior to their submission to the Project Manager and/or the formal document review process.
  • Provide a mentoring role for junior/project level staff.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Commonwealth and Queensland environmental legislation and approvals
  • Create GIS maps
  • Participate in project and client management from project inception through to delivery
  • Proactively contribute to our team of dedicated professionals
  • Operate in a collaborative working environment, regularly working with all members of our team
  • Prepare, manage and review deliverable
  • Upskill through various training opportunities.

 

Mandatory Qualification

  • Australian Citizenship and driver's licence
  • Demonstrate problem solving abilities
  • Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in ecology, botany, zoology, environmental science or environmental planning.
  • 7+ years relevant industry experience in a professional working environment, including state/local government and/or consulting.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and undertaking flora and fauna surveys.
  • Common sense and ability to think on your feet
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels in both technical and non-technical environments.
  • Effective written communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to maintain personal effectiveness particularly during periods of higher than normal workload.

Desirable Qualification:

  • Demonstrated experience in planning/development application.
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook skills;
  • Experience and abilities in ArcGIS or QGIS mapping.
  • Previous experience working in construction, consulting and government
  • C class manual driver's license
  • White card, First Aid, 4WD certificate
  • Ability to remain positively motivated and foster team spirit at times of significant pressure, including assisting others to meet deadlines
  • Prior experience in bushfire planning and assessment would be considered favourably.
