Jason is a newly recruited ecologist in 2023. Over 25 years, Jason has acquired a range of skills and experience in the public sector and not for profit environmental groups.

Jason’s experience includes 12 years as a Natural Resource Management Officer with the Queensland Department of Resources Vegetation Management team. He gained considerable experience providing advice to clients regarding the Vegetation Management Act 1999.  Specialising in PMAV Assessment, Regional Ecosystem assessment, Accepted Development Vegetation clearing codes (ADVCC) audits, compliance, investigation, development approvals and declared area (QLD and Federal offsets) approvals and management.

Jason’s other experience includes:

• Three years as a Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) Ranger responsible for crocodile surveys, wildlife management, inspections and permitting.
• Restoring urban waterways as a Bushland Regenerator with Logan City Council.
• Capricornia Catchments Yeppen Lagoon Restoration project Supervisor.
• Coordinating Regional Queensland Landcare groups environmental weed management programs.
• Rockhampton Regional Council Zookeeper caring for reptiles, dingoes, wombats, emus, macropods and birds.
• Capricorn Conservation Council Coordinator.

Jason has an excellent knowledge of the Queensland environmental legislation, particularly the Vegetation Management Act 1999, Nature Conservation Act 1992, Biosecurity Act 2014 and the Environmental Protection Act 1994.  

Jason has considerable experience and a keen interest in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global positioning systems (GPS), satellite imagery interpretation and aerial photo rectification. He is also passionate about ecological restoration and environmental weed management.

Jason has been a member of the Wildlife Preservation Society of Qld and the Capricorn Conservation Council. Jason is a current member of Native Plants QLD – Capricornia branch.
